EU AI Act & Responsible AI, 2026

Responsible AI,
built by an operator.

Founder of euqa.ai, EU AI Act certification for SMEs. AIGP (IAPP) in progress. 20 years governing data, models and people decisions inside Dell, TE Connectivity, Indeed and Workday, with bias, profiling, PII and fairness reviewed before models reach the business - not after.

Operating platform01 / 05

euqa.ai — EU AI Act certification for SMEs.

I founded euqa.ai to help small and mid-sized European organisations meet their obligations under the EU AI Act without needing a full in-house compliance function. The platform walks operators through risk classification (prohibited / high-risk / limited / minimal), conformity assessment prep, transparency obligations under Article 50, GPAI touchpoints, and the operational controls needed to stand up an AI governance programme that a regulator or customer procurement team will actually accept.

Built because the Act's text is enforceable but the practitioner playbook isn't — most SMEs have neither the legal budget nor the internal expertise to interpret it alone.

Regulatory & standards02 / 05

EU AI Act

Built euqa.ai to operationalise the Act for SMEs: Article 6 risk classification, Article 9 risk management, Article 10 data governance, Article 50 transparency, and GPAI touchpoints. Same content anchors the EU AI Act module in the IMI executive curriculum.

ISO/IEC 42001

Advising enterprise clients on AI Management System implementation. Controls mapped back into euqa.ai's SME playbook so the same evidence base serves both a 200-person operator and a Fortune 500 AIMS.

NIST AI RMF

Govern / Map / Measure / Manage applied inside Workday's AI Centre of Excellence and embedded in Future Academy's enterprise curriculum, so risk framing is a working practice, not a slide.

GDPR

Enterprise readiness against 4% worldwide-revenue exposure at Dell and TE Connectivity. Ongoing DPO and works-council liaison across 50K–80K-employee integrations in the EU.

Operating principles03 / 05

Govern from day one.

Bias, profiling, PII and fairness are not bolt-ons. The most defensible analytics work has the strictest discipline at the front, not the back.

Review before deployment.

Every predictive workforce model at Dell, Flight Risk, Leadership Impact, Span of Control, Headcount, cleared a bias / profiling / PII review board before reaching the business.

Translate, don't gatekeep.

Responsible AI fails when it sits between technical teams and executives as a brake. The job is to make the technical legible to leadership, and the regulatory legible to engineers.

Build for audit, ship for value.

Lineage, stewardship, breach process and right-to-erasure are operating muscles. They make AI faster to ship safely, not slower.

The receipts04 / 05

Bias, profiling and PII review boards (Dell, 2014–2019)

Stood up review boards covering bias, profiling and PII for every predictive people-analytics model. No model reached a business stakeholder without sign-off. Pattern replicated for unstructured-data work blending resumes, surveys and SharePoint into the lake.

Dell HR Data Governance on Collibra — Collibra 2018 award

Led Dell HR's data-governance programme using Collibra to establish common definitions, ownership and quality controls across enterprise HR data, connecting Workday, VMS, Tableau, the Data Lake and the HR Analytics Portal. Specified Information Lifecycle Management (production / archive / purge) as a foundation for right-to-erasure. Programme recognised by Collibra's 2018 Distinguished Data Governance Program award following the Dell–EMC integration.

GDPR readiness across Dell HR, 150K employees (Dell Technologies)

As Head of HR Tech, Data & Analytics, led Dell's global HR GDPR readiness programme with the Chief Privacy Office across 150,000 employees and every touchpoint where HR data moved through internal teams or vendors. Partnered with Legal, external counsel, EU DPOs and works councils to translate the Act into operating controls for end-to-end information lifecycle management. Hired Paul Hogan and stood up an HR data governance team, then ran "HR Data Print", an audit of 600+ HR data sources, systems and integrations, to expose data debt and rebuild lawful basis, consent architecture, retention and data-retrieval capability. First globally to connect Workday with Collibra alongside other point solutions. Built data quality measures, automated audits and SOP-driven monitoring (user removal, access rights, report deletion, duplication, escalation). Authored an Aggregated Data policy governing who could see PII versus aggregates, including automated assignment and removal from data cubes and profiling outputs, tuned to jurisdictional consent (e.g. EU works-council approvals, which for profiling was zero). Programme is still in place and has matured at Dell; pattern replicated later at TE Connectivity.

Recognised in Collibra's 2018 Excellence Awards (press) →

EU works councils & data protection officers (Dell, TE Connectivity)

Partnered directly with European DPOs and works councils across the EMC integration (50,000 FTEs onto Workday) and the TE global HR operating model (80,000 employees, 150+ countries). Negotiated data flows, retention and use-case scope before deployment.

AI Centre of Excellence (Workday)

Established Workday's AI Centre of Excellence inside a 2,500-engineer Product Engineering & QA org building AI-enabled HCM and Finance. Set the operating model, intake, and governance standards for how AI features ship to a regulated customer base.

Executive AI curriculum — Article 4 literacy (IMI Faculty, Future Academy)

Faculty member at the Irish Management Institute designing AI curriculum for executive audiences. Founder of Future Academy — 180+ students plus SMB and enterprise programmes with Microsoft and Enterprise Ireland partnerships — reframed as EU AI Act–ready capability at the workforce level: Article 4 AI literacy, competent human oversight of high-risk systems, and the day-to-day judgement enterprises need before deployment.
